This innovative product allows the customer to record video or watch in a ‘live’ mode the airway restriction problems of a horse during a normal workout. The Tele-View® Dynamic Endoscopes are self-contained light weight systems that is worn by the horse. This system does not impair the horse in any manner. The system is also ‘rider independent’ meaning the rider is not required to do anything except complete a normal workout of the horse. Also, as the product is light weight (about 5lbs/2.2kg), it allows for the horse to run with its head in a ‘normal’ position.
The endoscope insertion tube is placed in the pharynx and then secured with the harness securing clip and straps. The system automatically records high resolution video and audio to the SD card during the normal workout. This video can be watched in a ‘live’ mode with another device with either a strong wifi signal or a strong cellular signal. Once the workout is complete, the video can be viewed either on the 3.5” LCD screen of the cell phone transferred to another device via wifi.
We now have two different models of our Tele-View Dynamic Scope. The TV-507 has an 11.5mm stabilized insertion tube that gives a better view of the larynx and does not bounce or flutter. This model is a little more difficult to pass, but it gives a better image. The TV-508 has a 9.8mm non-stabilized insertion tube (flexible). This model is easier to pass, but it can bounce around inside the pharynx a little during the workout. If you want the insertion tube to be easier to pass and are okay with the insertion tube moving ‘up and down’ a little, like the Optomed system, you will want the TV-508. If you prefer a better image with little or no bouncing, the TV-507 is better. However, it will take some practice to get comfortable with passing the TV-507.
One Piece Tele-View® Equine Dynamic Endoscope includes:
- Custom built leather harness
- Custom built endoscope insertion tubes (either stabilized or flexible)
- Android phone that records both audio and video
- Irrigation system includes syringe luer-lock to clean the camera window before the workout. Also, includes an elastomeric bulb with Dial-A-Flow meter for automatic flushing during the workout
- One piece Hard-Sided Pelican Carrying Case
- One piece User Manual
- The Tele-View system is a simple design that is very durable and is easy to use. As with any electronic system, the simpler the design, the more durable the design. There are very few moving parts meaning there are less parts to break. Also, this design allows for ‘quick and easy’ setup and consistently excellent video results.
- Competitive products are typically complicated systems that usually take more time to set-up and use. This complexity also makes them more likely to need repairs. Repairs of the Tele-View system are quick and low cost.
- Also, the Tele-View system is usually priced at about 60% of the price of competitive system.
Yes, the audio and video can be seen and heard with an app! You have to download the app to both the cell phone in the harness and to another device. Then, they both need to be connected to a strong wifi or cellular signal. Whether or not the examination is viewed ‘live’, the audio and video is recorded to the cell phone.
The integrated harness includes clips and securing straps that allow the user to tighten down the endoscope cable and insertion tube to prevent movement once the insertion tube is placed into the pharynx. Also, the unique design of the Tele-View insertion tubes (507 or 508) makes them less flexible than typical endoscope insertion tubes reducing the bouncing or flutter inside the pharynx.
Present users tell us that after they have become familiar in working with the systems, they can usually do the complete exam in 20-30 minutes. However, please keep in mind that it is always easier to place when using either a twitch or a light sedative. Also, a light spray anesthetic placed in the nostril will make placing the insertion tube easier, saving time.
The irrigation system can be utilized in two different ways. First, a syringe can be used to flush water to clean the camera lens during placement of the insertion tube. For cleaning of the camera lens during the workout, an elastomeric bulb and a dial-a-flow meter are utilized. The elastomeric bulb acts as a pressure pump and can be filled with 60ml of water or saline solution. The dial-aflow meter can be adjusted to increase or decrease the flow. As the flow should only be a few drops of water or saline every 5-10 seconds, the dial-a-flow usually needs to be set at the lowest possible setting.
Yes and no. This system works great to flush condensation or small amounts of mucous from the camera lens. However, if a horse has lots of mucous, the system will probably not be able to flush a large mucous plug off the camera lens. In this case, the horse’s mucous problem needs to be treated before the Dynamic Endoscope is used on the horse.
Another option to reduce potential condensation and mucous during the workout is to use an ‘anti-fog’ solution on the camera tip. There are a number of these solutions that are available such as the brands that are used on scuba diving masks. They can minimize condensation and possibly enable the mucous to slide off the camera lens.
The files is typically recorded by the cell phone in a MP4 format. This can be easily viewed by many video players once uploaded to the cloud and another device with wifi.
There is a free download of an excellent media player called VLC. This is better than Windows Media Player and AMC suggests that you download and use VLC. It can be found at http://www.videolan.org/.
Yes, the video can be manipulated and edited with any video editing software.
The only maintenance is to keep the product clean and not damaged. The insertion tube tip and endoscope cable can be cleaned and sterilized with a cold sterilization product such as gluteraldehyde after usage. The irrigation line should always be flushed after each usage with at least isopropyl. Only clean, distilled water should be used in the irrigation system, otherwise the irrigation tubing and nozzle can get plugged. The cell phone should be charged each night.
The cell phone battery should give 90-120 minutes of recording time. You may want to buy a back-up cell phone and have both charged if you are going to do several exams in one day.
The warranty on the Equine Dynamic Endoscope is for 12 months from date of purchase. The warranty covers manufacturing related defects. It does not cover malfunction or damage that is the result of misuse, abuse or intentional damage to the product. An extended warranty service agreement can be purchased before the end of the first year and the cost is 15% of the cost of the endoscope per year.
As the Tele-View® Equine Dynamic Endoscope is a component based system, it is easily repaired. If the insertion tube is damaged, it can be removed from the leather harness and sent to Advanced Monitors for repair. Repairs typically take 2-3 days. If the irrigation system is damaged, AMC can quickly send another to you. If the cell phone is damaged, you can buy a similar phone to use.
